Automated data acquisition technologies provided a bridge between construction management and computer technology. Automated data acquisition technologies can locate, track and monitor the production on site and pass their information to computer. Then the data is processed in the computer by related algorithm and report construction condition to managers in time to help them to control the construction process and make decisions.In order to improve the construction site management, helping to ensure the accuracy and integrity of information, data acquisition technologies are introduced with its applications in construction. Based on literature reading and industry status analysis, technologies can be divided into four parts, which are automatic recognition technology, locating and tracking technology, image acquisition technology and sensors and monitoring technology. For every use, the current related mainstream technologis are concluded including principles and characteristics. Following the latest progess of experimental study on the application of automation technology, a clear direction of technologies’application and development is pointed out. It will be mainly focused on five aspects, which are resource management, productivity analysis, schedule monitoring, quality detection and safety insurance. Finally, two cases are studyed using data acquisition technology on practical engineering projects. The research is of great significance to provide a technical reference which will improve the construction site management ability.
