In order to research the deformations of rock-fill dam and know whether the dam is in safe conditions. Analyze the monitoring data then construct the corresponding regression model and inversion are two main methods for predicting the rock-fill dam deformations. Because inversion data come from rock-fill dam monitor and can reflect the real deformation characteristics of dam, it is used more and more in hydraulic engineering. The inversion method can solve easy linear and complicated nonlinear problems well. With the continuous development of geotechnical science and technology, intelligent and traditional computations are two kinds of inversion methods, which capability of solving practical engineering problems is rising.Response surface method is adopted in constructing response surface functions between observed deformations after construction of rock-fill dam and constitutive parameters that described nonlinear deformations of rock-fill materials. The response surface functions are calculated, then constitutive parameters can be got by optimization algorithm. This inversion method has a higher computational efficiency, and Gauss-Newton optimization algorithm adopted also has a convergence rate. The deviation between inversion value and design value is small. and the inversion value not only can evaluate rationality of design value but also can provide reliable experience value for similar dam projects. In order to research the influences of change of water level on upstream of rock-fill dam on dam deformation characteristics, the inversion value and design value are computed after dam construction with ABAQUS software. Results we get are compared with deformations of observation points, the comparison shows that it has small deviation between observation deformations and FEM (Finite Element Method) results of inversion value. So on the basis of contrast curves of observations and FEM results of inversion and design value can forecast late deformations of rock-fill dam in dead water level and normal water level reasonably and it also can provide lots of safety experience of management.
