As urban areas developing rapidly, urban transport problems have become increasingly serious. The development of public transportation system, which has attracted more and more attention, is recognized as one of the most effective measures to address today’s transportation problems all over the world. However, the development of public transportation system is lagging behind the development of cities. Particularly in cold region, the public transportation service cannot fully meet the needs of passengers, which causes the diversion of bus passengers to private cars and a decrease of public transportation mode share ratio. Focusing on passenger requirements and increasing the quality of bus service might be the only way to increase the passenger satisfaction and to enhance bus ridership in the cold region. This thesis first makes a description of impacting factors of bus passenger satisfaction in cold region. Taking Mudanjiang as an example, this study investigates passenger satisfaction and analyzes the current transportation problems. Then a transportation passenger satisfaction model was established using Logit model theory, analyzing influencing factors of passenger satisfaction in cold region including waiting time, driver attitude, security, price, crowdedness, speed, electronic passenger information system and heated waiting room. Considering China’s aging population, the thesis further studies the factors which will impact senior passenger satisfaction in cold area.Based on the modeling results, gender, taking frequency, waiting time, acceptable waiting time, driver attitude, security, price, crowdedness, speed are among the most influential factors to passenger satisfaction. Electronic passenger information system and heated waiting room also have significant impact on passenger satisfaction. For senior passengers, gender, taking frequency, waiting time, crowdedness and electronic passenger information system have significant impact on their satisfaction. The results provide a basis for making bus service improvement strategies. According to the numerical results, from seven aspects recommendations are made to enhance the public transportation service in the cold region.
