The all-terrain vehicle as a brand new style of vehicle was always called sandy beach vehicle, abbreviation name is ATV,It’s has a better off-road performance, and it’s usually a bad road travel. All-terrain vehicle frame as the vehicle’s the main carrying part, not only to carry the vehicle load, but also bear the external load caused by the road surface roughness. This requires that all-terrain vehicle frame should have sufficient strength and rigidity, and quality is the lighter the better. In the international context of the energy crisis, for improve vehicle performance and fuel economy of the vehicle, and ensure its strength, stiffness and 1st modal frequency of the premise, this paper take a study to one all-terrain vehicle frame for its launch lightweight design. There are four main parts of the concrete work:Firstly, analysis the all-terrain vehicle structure, establish the finite element model of the frame using Hyper Mesh based on the establishment of a 3-D geometric model of the frame;Secondly, analysis the all-terrain vehicle use conditions, and analysis pure bending conditions, extreme torsion conditions(in this paper, including the left front and right rear wheel dangling condition vacant condition) and emergency braking conditions of the frame for finite element static analysis based on RADIOSS solver. And assess the strength and stiffness of the frame based on the use of analytical results;Again, based on the RADIOSS solver for finite element free modal analysis of the frame, from the road roughness and engine excitation angles evaluate dynamic performance of the frame according to the modal analysis results;Finally, determine the constraints based on the static and dynamic analysis results, determine the design variables based on the sensitivity analysis results, the minimum frame quality for the objective function. Set up the frame structure optimization model based on Hyper Study software platform, select ARSM optimization algorithm to calculation the optimization model, optimization results show that we achieve a lightweight frame design with the frame’s quality reduced 4.997 kg. Then, we checked the optimized frame based on the optimization results.
