Perfobond rib shear connectors in composite structures are the most promising shear connectors.lt is of great engineering significance to study on the load transferring, mechanisms of perfobond rib shear connectors and to propose a convenient and efficient calculation method.Nonlinear finite element simulation is combined with the existing test results to study on the mechanical characteristics of perfobond rib shear connectors which are subjected to the combined tension and shear background stresses in composite structure.Based on the foregoing research results about FEA (finite element analysis) and the cell model in meso-mechanics, a new FEA method is put forward. Such FEA method is distinguished by its high computation efficiency as well as the satisfactory accuracy that meets the needs of engineering design. The present work includes:(1)The development process, main research methods, current research status and existing unsolved problems of prefobond rib shear connectors are described in detail.(2)A "cell model" is employed as the perfobond rib shear connectors are replaced by some equivalent isotropic homogeneous material zones and a simplified FEA model of connector array is established. The parameters in the constitutive relation of the cell material can be adjusted to make the load-slip relation of the simplified FEA model equivalent with the experimental data. As a result, the simplified FEA model can be used to simulate the macro mechanical behaviors of the composite structures.(3)The characteristic of the displacements on the cell boundary is studied. A mathematical formula correlating the boundary displacements of an equivalent cell and those of a single perfobond rib shear connector are proposed. Thus the displacement boundary conditions of the detailed FEA model of a single perfobond shear connector are determined.(4) The displacement boundary conditions of a single perfobond shear connector are imposed to the FEA model, and the local stress and strain distribution characteristics are investigated.
