The disease causes, disease treatment measures and nonuniform deformation controling standards for road widening project were analyzed. Then, the software FLAC3 D was used to established typical numerical model based on a road widening project in southwest China. Geological investigation and experimental data are analyz ed for the parameters used in numerical simulation, and new embankment are filling by layer. Afterwards, interaction of new and old widening embankment, embankment deformation characteristics after widening, reinforced embankment deformation rule were analyzed.As numerical simulation show, a long with construction procedure, vertical displacement at the top of embankment are increasing gradually, old embankment are increased from left to right, new embankment are in creased on the left side, and decreased a little at the right side. The maximum vertical displacement are at the top center of the new embankment, the horizontal are in the joint between old and new embankment.The lighter new roadbed severe is, the nonuniform deformation of widened road are better controlled, while combined with other measures are neccessery considering economic factors and so on. The larger new and old embankment modulus ratio contribute to decrease the differential settlement, combined with controling standards, the me thod which new embankment modulus ratio are equal to the old one should be adopted. The ground treatment measures were suggested for the improved new embankment modulus contribute to decrease the nonuniform deformation.The horizontal displacement of reinforced embankment and foundation reduced obviously, vertical displacement reduced at a certain degree. When the embankment were reinforced three layers equally, nonuniform deformation controling standards of which can be meeted. The increased layers of the geogrid are not equal to reasonable reinforced effect. At the top and bottom of embankment, the geogrid modulus are required high, while the middle can be low. The vertical space of geogrid is 1.0m, and the geogrid at the middle of the embankment can be abolished at the range of 1.5m to the right edge.The simulation results can be useful to make out the design system of road widening project in places similar to southwest Ch ina, and can be reference to the improve the treatment measures of nonuniform deformation of road widening project.
