With the rapid development of modern manufacturing industry, the manufacturing sector needs higher precision while the metrology has also be developed, especially linear encoder, as a representative of grating measuring equipment plays a key role in modern science and technology.As a closed loop control system in the processing of machine tools, linear encoder has many advantages, such as high precision, strong anti-interference ability and so on, but that it must look for zero while it starts to work and can’t retain the data after interruption of power supply makes another kind of linear encoder come out -- absolute linear encoder.Firstly, base on the analysis of the research status at home and abroad, a new encoding method is proposed and it is superior to the current encoding.Secondly, the experiment platform of unsealed absolute linear encoder is established. Through the experiment, the feasibility of application of image recognition technology in absolute linear encoder is tested, and the resolution and accuracy are detected.Thirdly, a sealed absolute linear encoder is designed and manufactured, during this process, mamy key and difficult points are solved, and the solutions are explained.Finally, the experiment platform of sealed absolute linear encoder is built; the first six order natural frequency and modal shape are found in the ANSYS Workbench finite element simulation analysis. Then the anti-vibration performance of sealed absolute linear encoder is tested in the experiment, which provides technical support for the further study of the absolute linear encoder.
