Investigation On The Best Ornamental Period Of Woody Landscape Plants In Tai’an

Flowers bloom in the spring, trees grow in the summer, leaves turn brilliant colors in the autumn and snowflakes covered the earth in the winter. Landscape plants are the most viable and varied elements in urban green space.And it plays an irreplaceable role in landscape design.Each plant has the best ornamental period. During this time, it shows the most beautiful form in the shapes and colors in one year. Such as the florescense, full fruit period and leaves discoloration period of landscape Plants and so on. The best ornamental period and order play an important role in plant disposition. Making some landscape plants with similar ornamental period plant together, we can create the spectacular landscape of flowers. And making some garden plants with different ornamental period plant together, we can bring about the wonderful and colorful continuous landscape of four seasons.So far, the research on the best ornamental period and order of landscape plants is poor. However, it has great value in landscape construction. Therefore, we will do the systematic survey and research on ornamental period and order of landscape plants in Tai’an in order to provide scientific reference in landscape design and plant disposition. The main results were as follows:1. The climate significantly affect the growth of garden plants. Each year due to different climatic conditions, the best ornamental period of the garden plants appears in different time. Despite changing with the climate, its sequential is hardly affected by the climate. It generally advances in warmer weather and postpone in cold weather. Although, the order of garden plants hardly changes.2.(1)The period in spring is divided into three stages:①3.1—3.20; ②3.21—5.15; ③5.16—5.31.①3.1—3.20: the early stage. The spring flowers enter into ornamental period in about March 5th.But the number is few.②3.21—5.15: the prosperous stage. Most of plants enter into the best ornamental period at this stage and creat colorful and spectacular landscape.③5.16—5.31: the late stage. The number is reduced and come into the end of springlandscape.(2)The period in summer is divided into two stages:①6.1—6.30;②7.1—8.31.①6.1—6.30: the prosperous stage. It has the largest number of ornamental flowers in summer. Rose has the longest florescence among all the flowers.It is from mid-May to November and more than 200 days.②7.1—8.31: the late stage. Most of the plants enter into greenleaf growth period. Therefore, summer flowers is rare and precious.(3)The period in autumn is divided into two stages:①9.1—10.20;②10.21—11.30.①9.1—10.20: the early stage. The ornamental species of trees are relatively few. There are mainly some species for flowers and few trees for fruits and foliage.②10.21—11.30: the prosperous stage. The species are rich and almost all the trees for fruits and foliage enter into the prosperous stage so that present us a rich and colorful landscape.3. The period in one year can be divided into four stages and two peaks.①3.11-6.10: the most important period for enjoying flowers in one year. Nearly 30 kinds of plants bloom continuously and present us a colorful and beautiful landscape.②6.11-10.20: the relatively stable stage in one year and can be divided into two periods: summer and autumn stage. The ornamental trees are mainly made of flowers in summer and fruits and foliage in autumn.③ 10.21-11.30: the most important season for enjoying fruits and foliage in one year. Nearly 25 kinds of plants enter into the best ornamental period and another peak of landscape appears.④ 12.1-3.10: The most silent ornamental stage of the year. Most plants are dormant. two peaks:①4.1-5.10 : the important ornamental season for spring flowers. ②10.21-11.30 : the best ornamental period for autumn foliage.4. The best ornamental period and order play an important role in plant disposition. On one hand, making some landscape plants with similar ornamental period plant together, we can create spectacular landscape of flowers. On the other hand, making some garden plants with different ornamental period plant together, we can bring about the wonderful, colorful andcontinuous landscape of four seasons. 5. The best ornamental period appears differently because of different temperature, light and other climatic factors.Temperature, humidity, light, soil conditions and biological communities impact the best ornamental period together in different environments. And the temperature is the important factor.
