Guanxian (Dujiangyan), a national historical and cultural city, is famous for theDujiangyan water conservancy project. Guanxian, the famous ancient city, water cultureand Taoism culture, has a long history and profound cultural connotation. This thesishas both practical and academic significance, because it presents and analyses theancient city in various measures and aspects, such as the historical context, city patterncombing, in-depth excavation China city landscape theory, design method and so forth.Since the Wenchuan earthquake, Guanxian city suffered considerable damage of thehistoric features and city water.. This thesis, utilizes the human settlements theory as aguideline, adopts landscape city of Guanxian city-building idea, and explores the theoryand method of city design and development of Bashu area.This paper adopting the methods of historical documents and field research,analyses the characteristics and causes of city development and evolution of the ancientcity based on the concept of living environment,. This paper discusses the landscapingideas and conditions of the internal and external composition, deeply exploring thelocation, geographic axis and layout, summarizing the city design methodology and theideas of optimizing living environment of Guanxian. The paper proposes ahuman-and-natural-environment-oriented urban design methodology applying thetraditional urban landscaping layout, emphasizing the significant relations of the ancientcity and surrounding landscapes in the perspective of historical, cultural andenvironmental protection.From this perspective, this paper provides a replanning proposal for the ancient city and implications for landscaping construction.
