Research On Landform Building Of Classical Garden Landscape Space In Northern China

With so many mountains and much water, the splendid land in China hasconstituted the natural background of the garden development, which provides superiornatural condition and rich mock object for building the scenic garden through thenatural landscape and landform or building artificial landscape landform. Art of GardenBuilding points out,“It is feasible to build splendid garden if the surroundingenvironment is taken into full consideration.” The traditional landscape planningtechnique lays emphasis on the integration of the manual work beauty and naturalbeauty, with the purpose of creating the artistic conception of “Although the garden isbuilt by human, it seems as being created by the god.” The landform is the frameworkof the garden, which supports all elements of the garden, such as architecture layout,plant allocation, body of water, etc. Besides, it has influence in the garden spacecomposition, space perception, function layout, landscape effect, small climate, etc. Itcreates the interest of a garden with natural landscape. Therefore, the handling of thegarden landform is the key of the garden planning design. To utilize and shape thelandform scientifically and reasonably can greatly save the consumption of the time,manpower, material, and financial resource.This paper is aimed at summarizing the technique of utilizing the landformbuilding space in north of China traditional garden building and putting forward theenlightenment it brings to the modern garden.The innovation points of this paper can be illustrated in the following three aspects:Sort out the development progress of Chinese classical garden (mainly the gardenin the northern part) from the viewpoint of the landform building, and summarize thecharacteristics and rules of the landform shaping of the Chinese classical gardens. In China, there is some research about the landform shaping in the traditionallandscape planning technique. However, it lacks the horizontal comparison andsummary on the classical garden landform space with different dimensions. Besides,most research is centered on the specific analysis of the single classical garden. Throughthe field research, analysis and comparison on the classical garden landform (RoyalPark, garden with garden, and courtyard) with different dimensions, this paper tries tosummarize the rules of the landform shaping skills of the traditional garden building.Most research on the landform of the Chinese classical garden is “discussing thetradition based on the tradition”. It lacks its application in the modern garden. Throughthe analysis on the practice project of landscape renovation of Huaqing Hot Spring, thispaper summarizes how to apply the landform shaping technique of the traditionalgarden building and the space construction strategy into the modern garden design.
