Small Residential Space Design Investigation And Research

The residence is an important space for social and family activities. With the rapiddevelopment of the society in the21st century and the high-speed urbanization processunder the world’s limited resources, the urban population has grown at an increasingrate, while the family population is relatively declined and the population mobility insociety has become stronger. The social problem of an aging population living alone isalso highlighted in this process. In this environment, the small residential space is a verysuitable living mode, and also a strong complement to existing housing in form andstructure. However, this apartment layout has many problems in the actual design andapplication. Solving these problems and contradictions in a limited area and designingcompact, practical and comfortable living spaces to meet the different needs ofoccupants is important and relatively to the practical concerns of the society.The thesis can be divided into the following parts:1. The thesis focuses on the analysis of the development and evolution, thebackground, the developing process and the spatial characteristics of the smallresidential space in different areas and periods both at home and abroad. It also depictsthe dynamic process which develops from meeting the bisic living requirments toforming muture design theory.2. the thesis introduces classical cases to ananlyse the characteristics of the flatspace and makes a summary of methods and advantages that can be used in the smallresidential space design process. Then do investigations in the realistic residence inorder to know the feelings and denmands of the residents, and makes it as the standardsin the small residential space design.3. In this part the thesis studies the single function in the small residential spaceand then discusses the following three aspexts:how to combine the function space intohouse type, how to make the apartment layout into standard layer and describes the characteristics of each one.4. In this part, the thesis applies the researching method and theory in the pracricalproject, taking the design of Fengdong Low-income Housing Project2012as a case,which has a new view of the small residential space in plane subfunction, plan form,function flow and space perception, and meanwhile puts forward the optimal designstratgey and the modificationplan in the practical use-process.5. The thesis makes a summary of the theory and the practice. Analyse theunsloved questions or the new one,making a preparations for the future research.
