The embedded large cylinder quay is one of the new type of port engineering structure.Better than the traditional structure, the embedded large cylinder quay does not need astrong bearing layer, is especially suitable for soft soil foundation, and has theadvantages of low cost, short construction period, that is, it can meet the high demandof the rapid development of the port and coastal engineering construction nowadays,owning prospective future of application. However, due to the complicated workingmechanism, there is still lack of widely accepted theoretical system and calculationmethods, stability analysis has become a key problem in its application.Taking the above problems into account, this paper makes some research into thestability analysis of the embedded large cylinder quay through the finite elementmethod taking advantage of FEM analysis model, the main contents include thefollowing several aspects:1. Set up the strength reduction FEM for stability analysis of the embedded largecylinder structure. Apply the strength reduction FEM which is often used in slopestability analysis to make analysis of the embedded large cylinder quay’s stability asthe structure is under action of complex loads and is hard to analyze. Establish the3Delastic-plastic FEM analysis model according to the principle of the strengthreduction method to confirm the structure’s stability safety factor throughcorresponding stability analysis process. Compare the calculation results of abreakwater engineering project by strength reduction finite element method with theexisting loading coefficient method which is now somehow mature and verified thecorrectness and feasibility of this method.2. Analyze instability failure mode of the embedded large cylinder quay and the earthpressure distribution, then propose the simplified calculation method for earthpressure acted on the structure, and study the stability influence factors as well as thewhole failure mode of the structure.3. Set up the displacement controlled FEM for stability analysis of the embeddedlarge cylinder quay. In order to figure out the ultimate bearing capacity and avoid theinstability in FEM limit value solution, make use of displacement controlled FEM toanalyze the stability of the large cylinder quay. Reverse seek the load increment through controlling the displacement increment of the point of resultant force untilreaches the limit state, and determine the ultimate bearing capacity of structure.Besides, make analysis of the bearing mechanism at the limit status, and establishthe calculation method for stability safety factor of the embedded large cylinderstructure based on the ultimate bearing capacity.4. According to the analysis results of strength reduction FEM, this paper establishesa simplified calculation method for anti-overturning stability analysis of the largeembedded cylinder quay structure, and prove the correctness of the method bycomparing with the results of strength reduction FEM.
