Rational power network structure is the premise of secure and reliable operationof electrical power system. It is of important significance to have a thoroughunderstanding on the complex structural characteristics of power grid. The structuralcharacteristics of several real power grids in different sizes are studied in this paperbased on the complex network theory. The main work is as follows:(1)The topology-based network model of power grid is established based on theprinciples of the existing topology modeling for analyzing the statistical characteristicparameters. The result demonstrates that although these parameters can reflect thetopological characteristics of power grid from different sides, they have certainlimitation in representing the electrical characteristics of power grid.(2)The characteristic of probability distribution of electrical distance betweennodes of real power grid is analyzed. The network model based on the electricaldistance is established by setting appropriate electrical distance threshold based on thecharacteristic of cumulative probability distribution of electrical distance betweennodes. The electrical distance-based model is in accord with the actual characteristicof power grid because of the reflection of Ohm’s Law and Kirchhoff’s Law whichcontrols the current and voltage distribution in power grid. Comparing with thetopology model, the electrical distance-based model performs better in reflecting thenatural electrical characteristic structure of power grid, especially intuitive andeffective in analyzing clustering characteristics and agglomeration characteristics ofpower grid. These two models can complement each other.
