In recent years, the rapid development of China’s automobile industry makes thedemand for the rapid prototyping of mold in automotive industry growing. As the last stepof wrapping the automotive panel forming process, its forming quality has a significantimpact in the quality and accuracy of the edge of the automobile panel. So, as the mold tocomplete the hemming process, its quality and dimensional accuracy of structural designis particularly important for auto panel’s hemming quality. At present, the level ofhemming mold’s design is still relatively backward in China. And in recent years, thedevelopment of domestic mold CAD technology also gives automotive mold designindustry a new vitality, not only greatly improve the efficiency of automobile mold design,but also improves the quality. So, we can see, it’s the future direction of the manufacturingof the hemming mold to develop the CAD system and the parametric design of thehemming die.Based on the analysis of the structural characteristics of the hemming process, themold structure and movement stroke, this article complete the design of the punch die,pre-hemming mechanism and hemming mechanism on three-dimensional drawingsoftware UG, analysis the key technology in the design process and achieve the automaticgeneration of these three components.Finally, this edging mold CAD system is applied to an enterprise, it improves thedesign’s efficiency of automobile panel hemming mode and shortens the developmentcycle, improves the quality of mold design, greatly reduces the repetition rate of thedesigner to improve the competition in the enterprise.
