In the current context of collaborative design, involving multidisciplinary teams that arebuilt to meet together in an application products more competitive and complex, is tocapitalize the reasoning designers can help save time in the design and improving the qualityand understanding of the final product, through the reuse of archived information for futuredesign projects. The current thought is interested in capturing the reasoning designers calledthe Design Rationale. Behind the concept of Design Rationale, many surveyed in the researchworld, but only few in this industry means memorizing questions asked designers, they areconsidering options to meet customer expectations translated into criteria for the product, thesolutions adopted and will be felt in the final product, and the arguments that supported thechoice of options. Capture Design Rationale whose result is the representation of DesignRationale, aims to describe the design space composed by a decision space and evaluationspace.Based on a literature review of the operation of tools, we deduce that two tracks ofinterest were ignored by researchers working on the Design Rationale. First, existing toolsobstruct the temporal dimension of the reasoning designers. However, we hypothesize thatstoring the chronological logic of this reasoning can provide added value in understanding thereasoning designers. Moreover, perhaps because the approaches and tools developed have notseen the collaboration as a design context quite apart. However, the analysis and evaluation ofthe contribution of each person involved in the design seems essential, especially today wheredevelopment times are reduced and where the skills needed for the development of productsincreasingly sophisticated and multifaceted. These two lines of research are those who havebeen prosecuted during labor. The work presented in this thesis is an initial attempt to explore the Design Rationale in acollaboration design process. A research study in two steps is conducted to analyze the DesignRationale in a collaborative context in the early stages of the engineering design process.Firstly, a draft grid is proposed to code the design process of a case study to detect design problems, design solutions, and criteria for selecting the solutions and paying a great attentionto the chronology of the process and to the individual contribution to the design. Secondly thediverging results of this test conducts to improve the grid and to define rules for coding. Thefinal results conclude to formulate specifications for a tool to support the collaboration.
