The analysis of traffic accidents shows that fatal accidents were usually caused byfatigue driving. Thus, it is very important to judge driving fatigue timely and toprevent it effectively. In this way, we can reduce the traffic accidents and improveroad safety.Firstly, the paper based on the present research at home and abroad, focused onthe formation and influence factors of fatigue driving, as well as the relationshipbetween driving performance and fatigue driving. We proposed the way to identifyfatigue driving based on the characteristics of drivers’ performance in fatigue drivingtest.Secondly, the comprehensive experiment was designed based on the drivingsimulation synthetic experimental platform to collect data. Based on this platform, theexperiment was designed to acquire experimental data of drivers in alert driving andfatigue driving. The scenarios and experimental procedure were introduced. Thecontrolling method for each factor in the experiment was elaborated. The basic data,such as drivers’ personality characteristics, driving adaptive characteristics anddriving performance, were collected from the experiment.Thirdly, the effect mechanism of fatigue on drivers was analyzed. The analysisfocused on the subjective characteristics and driving adaptive characteristics ofdrivers under different states. The subjective characteristics’ distributions wereanalyzed with statistical method to show the subjective change features. The drivingadaptive parameters were studied with repeated ANOVA and logistic regressionmethod to explain the effect mechanism of fatigue on drivers. The results showed thatdrivers were cautious when fatigue driving, but their reaction capacity and cognitivecompetence were impaired. What’s more, drivers’ controlling ability was impairedsignificantly. According to these results, the method of selecting driving performanceindicators was discussed. The indicators included vehicle’s travelling state parametersand driver’s driving performance.At last, the driving performance under the influence of fatigue was analyzed. Thedriving performance such as speed, steering wheel movements and lane position inalert driving and fatigue driving under different road geometries were analyzed withstatistical method. The results showed that when fatigue driving, the speed was higher and the stability of steering wheel and lane position declines. It was also proved thatthe effects of fatigue on driving performance were related with road conditions.According to these results, some driving performance indicators affectedsignificantly by fatigue were extracted to explore the recognition method of fatiguedriving based on the ROC curves. Meanwhile, the system for detecting and warningfatigue driving was introduced in this paper. This system was based on drivingperformance and was developed independently. Examined in the test, the systemworked well in identifying and alerting to fatigue driving.In addition, this paper studied the way fatigue driving influenced thecharacteristics of driving performance. We proposed the measure to identify fatiguedriving under different road geometries, and developed the vehicle-mounted systemfor detecting and warning fatigue driving, which would push forward the detectionand warning of fatigue driving.
