The vigorous development of modern science and technology and economy, making the car has become the indispensable consumer goods in modern people’s life.As the world’s energy resources, especially the oil resources needed by traditionalinternal combustion engine cars are limited, the car use cost is higher and higher; Atthe same time, with the expansion of the automobile industry, a large number ofautomobile exhaust emissions, caused great environmental pollution., for example, car exhaust emissions has the primary responsibility for China fog culprit. Shortageof to save energy and protect the environment, from the perspective of the sustainabledevelopment of economy and car market, new energy vehicles, especially electriccars, got rapid development because of using other sources of energy, zero emissionsand other significant advantages. Pure electric vehicles are the trend of thedevelopment of the automotive industry. But the travel distance of electric car isinsufficient, which limits the popularity of electric cars. Therefore, research on energyrecovery, is of great significance to the development of electric vehicles. Frictionbrake of the car’s kinetic energy is converted into heat to the air, caused great waste ofenergy. Thus, the research scope of braking energy recovery is still very big.In this paper, the first chapter introduces the research background of the paper,,limitations of conventional cars and advantages of new energy vehicles. Meanwhile, aiming at the bottleneck of new energy vehicles, puts forward the train of thought forstudying the braking energy recovery. In view of the braking energy recovery, discusses the current research, summarizes up the necessity of brake energy recoveryresearch; The second chapter outlines the types of drive motors, introduces theperformance characteristics of the common drive motor and general control methods, clarifies the advantage of permanent magnet synchronous brushless DC motor in thedrive motor, and points out that it is widely used in-wheel motor drive electricvehicles. Therefore, for permanent magnet synchronous brushless DC motor, illustrates some basic control methods. Based on research-driven motors and automotive braking dynamics analysis, Chapter III discusses the mechanism of thebraking energy recovery; Chapter IV in view of the electric car wheel motor drive, taken electric wheel as object, design and develop the energy recovery braking testbench. Fifth chapter puts forward some of the braking energy recovery experimentideas, and conducts electric wheel braking energy recovery tests in the developedbench.
