With the rapid growth of the national economy and the accelerate pace ofurbanization in the country, traffic jams become the norm of modern urban transport.Metro traffic with its large volume and not the floor space have become the first choiceto solve the problem of urban traffic congestion. Shield tunneling is considered as one ofthe most important methods in the tunnel construction, which will disturb ambient rockmass inevitably. In particular, too large settlement could endanger the safety of thesurrounding buildings, causing seriouse conomic losses and social impact. Therefore, it isimperative to study building protection measures when shield tunneling through existingbuildings. In this paper, with a certain subway section underneath pass surface buildingsin Wuhan as an engineering example, using finite element software ABAQUS to make a3D numerical simulation on different conditions before and after the groutingreinforcement in the construction process of the building foundation, the main work andresearch results are as follows:Using the finite element software ABAQUS, simulate the process of the tunnelexcavation before grouting reinforcement. Through the analysis of the simulation results,the transverse settlement curve of foundation is normal distribution, accord with theclassical Peck settlement curve. Each point settlement in the tunnel axis is the largest,and the farther distance with the tunnel axis, the settlement is smaller. Analysis the lastedsettlement curve of the buildings foundation, getting foundation has experienced a smallsettlement (uplift) stage, settlement surge stage and stable subsidence stage in thelongitudinal. The maximum settlement value and the local tilt value exceed the allowablevalue of building foundation, the building damage may occur.Foundation grouting reinforcement is adopted in order to prevent surface buildingsdamage. Using the finite element software ABAQUS, simulate the process of the tunnelexcavation after grouting reinforcement. Putting the numerical simulation result with thedata of the field monitoring results are compared and analyzed, the settlement tendency is consistent, which proves the feasibility and reliability of numerical simulation. Theresults show that after grouting reinforcement foundation settlement value and local tiltvalue are smaller than before the reinforcement values and smaller than the controlvalues. Therefore, grouting reinforcement is an effective protection measures.
