Transition Space Design Of Seaside Hotels Based On Seaside Climate

The relation between people, climate and architecture is a continuous topic inarchitectural design. To form comfortable living space, the climate is one of the mainelements to consider. The climate is different in different area. In South China, theseaside part of Guangdong, Guangxi and Hainan Provinces has distinguished charactersin climate. They belong to subtropical and tropical oceanic monsoon climate, which haslong sunshine time, proper temperature with only a few extreme conditions, highhumidity, large volume of rainfall in rainy season, even sometimes typhoon, in differentseasons the prevailing wind is in different directions, etc. All these unique climatecharacters will influence the choice of space type during architectural design.The transition space is a special kind of space, which connects and transits betweenthe inner architectural space and the exterior space. In South China, as the transitionspace is good at taking advantages of the climate and avoid some bad conditions, theyare wide applied in architecture in this area and their application can trace back long inhistory. This essay will focus on the application of transition space in seaside hotels.In the essay, analysis would be put forward in two directions. One is work on thetransition space. In this essay, I category and analyze the transition space by the numberand type of the surrounding surface. Different kind of transition space has differentadvantages in the way it replies to the climate condition. The other direction is work onthe case of seaside hotels and analyze from the specific functional space of hotel. In thisessay, I take the entrance space, lobby space, eating space, transportation space andopen kangle space as the typical function space in hotel that may apply transition space.To combine this two directions of analysis, I can conclude the application condition oftransition space in seaside hotels in South China, in which way can further instruct thedesign of a seaside hotel at Beihai, Guangxi Province.
