According to the concepts of reticulated mega-structure and the mechanicalbehavior of spherical latticed shell structures, the paper presents a new structuralform——kiewitt spherical reticulated mega-structure. This structure is divided intosimilar grids, so it has favourable strength performance. With beautiful outline, highstiffness and light weight, it is appropriated to the functional long-span structure. The model of kiewitt spherical reticulated mega-structure was created by using thefinite element software Ansys and the basic static behavior of structure was analyzed. The influences of height-to-span, span, height factor of truss and structural constraintson the stress distribution of top and bottom chord of truss were discussed. Under thecondition of initial geometrical imperfections and geometric nonlinearity, the elasticstability performance was analyzed. The effects of height-to-span and structuralconstraints on bearing capacity of the elastic stability were analyzed. The failure modeof structure was determined by the average stress ratio.Dynamic characteristics of the kiewitt spherical reticulated mega-structure werecarried out and the variation trend of natural frequencies and modes were analyzed. Theinfluences of height-to-span, span and height factor of truss on the natural frequencieswere discussed. Seismic analysis of the kiewitt spherical reticulated mega-structure wascomputed by time-history method. Under seismic excitations, the stress distribution andjoint displacement distribution of top and bottom chord were discussed. Under differentseismic excitations, the stress distribution and joint displacement distribution of top andbottom chord of truss were compared. According to the paper, some beneficial conclusions were acquired. Height-to-span,span, and structural constraints are the major factors of influencing the stressdistribution and natural vibration characteristics of structure. The height-to-span ofstructure should be0.25and structural constraints of structure should be articulated onthe top and bottom chord of truss. The kiewitt spherical reticulated mega-structureshows better elastic stability performance and seismic behavior. Strength is the basicinfluencing factor of structure’s failure mode. The stress and joint displacement of topand bottom chord of truss depand mainly on the static. Considering the sub-structurebearing the load, the stress of top and bottom chord of truss were deeply decreased. They are theoretical basic for the engineering design of the kiewitt spherical reticulatedmega-structure.
