The development of super long span shell structures is great need of our society and a symbol of the level of architectural technology. The reticulated mega-structure system is able to solve the mechanical problems caused by long span of the shell structure. By using the concept of mega-structure, An innovative structure, honeycomb type spherical reticulated mega-structure, was presented in the thesis. The configuration, static properties and stability of the structure were studied comprehensively, mainly included the following:The configuration, form parameters and support styles of the main structure were analyzed. The form of the substructure, hollow tri-pyramid grid, and it's support styles on the main structure were described. The procedure of a program to generate the structure automatically was analyzed in detail. All these will provide great convenience for the comprehensive and systemic research on the mechanical properties of the structure.Considering two different situations, the main structure bearing the load by itself and the main structure bearing the load cooperatively with substructures, the static properties of the structure including the force distribution of both main structure and substructures and a series of parametric analyses were studied comprehensively. The force distribution laws, influences of main parameters on static properties of the structure and various laws of parameters were obtained.The geometric nonlinear stability of the structure was studied. The buckling mode and the weak area during the buckling process of the structure were analyzed. A series of parametric analyses about the ultimate load of the structure were carried out. Influences of support styles of both main structure and substructures on the ultimate load were also studied.Influences of initial geometric imperfection of structure and uneven distribution of the load were analyzed. Real bearing abilities of the structure on different conditions were obtained. The failure condition of the structure was discussed and we found that the destruction of the structure is mainly controlled by strength condition.Based on the calculation method of the redundancy and the sensitive index, influences on the ultimate load and the ability of the structure to resist progressive collapse after some members were destroyed by accidental factors were studied. Considering the destruction of single member and destruction of node, areas where key members and nodes stay at were found. The specific method to improve the redundancy of the structure were presented and the effect of different method were analyzed. All these work will provide a reference in theory for the use of such structures.
