Xi’an as a historical city,has a long history, profound cultural foundation. At thesame time, Xi’an as the Northwest’s largest city, by the power of the westerndevelopment, regardless of whether the economy from the city process, education,and other aspects are in the northwest area leading, landscape has certain disparitywith the developed city, but by the history and culture and the cultural legacy of themonuments, Xi’an will become an international metropolis goal is in sight. A part ofcity planning as an integral part of the pavement, has become the decisive factor in thecomposition of city.This paper analyses according to the pavement bearing the ancient cultural andemotional factors, studying and analyzing the advantages in spatial, visual, function ofthe traditional pavement, then returning to the Xi’an situation, put forward its ownideas, to "ancient" as the premise, the pavement characteristics of ancient as thefoundation, formed a unique form of Xi’an pavement. The first chapter introduces thebackground and significance of the research, and introduces the history of thedevelopment of road pavement; the second chapter is about the historical and culturalbackground and the present situation of pavement landscape in city, the historical andcultural background of the city landscape is analyzed, then carries on the analysis tothe pavement landscape present situation; the third chapter describes the citypavement landscape type (City Plaza, garden and park, city residential areas,commercial pedestrian street, city road, parking lot) and its application, function (thespirit of sensory function and material function) as well as the basic elements, andmake an analysis on the basic elements of paving landscape, history and culture to explain the pavement expression through the pavement material texture, color andpatterns, shape and scale of these design elements; the fourth chapter will focus on thehistorical background of Xi’an: Xi’an city including the development history andpaving conveys the historical connotation, including simple and sincere, natural andharmonious, the blessings and love, the four aspects of artistic expression. The fifthchapter will combine examples, analysis of pavement landscape in several types ofXi’an, express their views. The sixth chapter is the conclusion part will elaborate the"ancient" as the premise, the formation of Xi’an unique pavement forms.
