With the general application of GIS, the harm of VFTO caused widespreadattention. Nowadays, people have done a lot of research for the VFTO aboutcharacteristics, effects and protective measures, and get many important results.However, with the development of GIS technology, great changes have taken place tothe structure and components. As GIS’s “small” and “compact” has led to the change inthe characterization of VFTO. In view of the field test conditions,It is important andsignificant to study on GIS transformer substation VFTO.In this paper, the studies were focused on GIS disconnecting switch in HPSPS, andanalyze the causes and harm of VFTO according to the layouts of GIS substation.Through modeling and simulation technology, using the EMTPE to calculate the mainelectrical components under the transient over-voltage value for the256operationmode. Through the simulation, the VFTO level was presented, providing thetechno-support for the operation.The research method in this paper, solves the field test conditions limit of powerstation.The results of research have a good reference value and guiding significance tosolve the VFTO in HPSPS.
