The crossing-mountain area of water diversion tunnel in Shanxi Province’sHanjiang River-to-Wei River Water Diversion Project has been seen as a crucial linefor the whole project in Qinling mountain. Due to the negative geologic structure andjoint surface, it has presented a potential geologic hazard to the project. As a practicaltechnology in construction, the grouting process has been widely used in China. Itshould be also noted that the grouting is also known as an underground work and stillconfronts a lot of problems to resolve, such as the material preparation and thespecific method. Based on the existing studies on grouting materials, water blockingand grouting method, this paper has employed a series of research methods such asnumerical analysis, indoor testing, filed monitoring and geophysical exploration inorder to look deeper into the grouting for water blocking in water diversion tunnel.mainly internal, including:(1) A comprehensive summary and analysis will be made in the paper tointroduce the development of grouting theory, grouting materials, water blockingtechniques, simulated experiment and grouting quality inspection both at home andabroad. What is more, some research methods and technological measures forgrouting for water blocking in Shanxi Province’s Wei River-to-Hanjiang RiverDiversion Project will be also included.(2) An analysis will be also made to account for the poor performance of waterblocking with single grouting materials in the diversion tunnel of crossing-mountainarea. Based on the satisfying property of grouting materials and the theory ofmechanics of double grouting materials, this paper has also proposed an improvedpreparation method that is featured by excellent stability and stability as well as lowcost so as to facilitate the water blocking in the project.(3) In light of the splitting and expanding performance of grouting materials inmass rock, an simulated analysis and indoor experiment is also conducted so as towork out the rule of the flow of grouting materials in the cracking rock and thethreshold pressure value of the rock subjecting to split and expansion, which can beused as the theoretical basis for the grouting construction.(4) Based on the acceptable pressure value in preparing the grouting material,the design parameter, process flow and strengthening method in grouting for waterblocking are also included in the paper to optimize the project implementation. (5) The result of the paper will be also applied in the grouting for waterblocking in Shanxi Province’s Wei River-to-Hanjiang River Water Diversion Project.What is more, the optimized double-materials grouting is also conducted in the field.Based on a series of operation the external inspection, indoor testing, simulatedanalysis, field monitoring and geophysical exploration, an evaluation of thestrengthening stability and performance of the grouting for water blocking have alsobeen made in the paper.
