Electric power industry is the basic industry which concerns national economiclife line. Although electric power industry of China has developed quickly with thegrowth of economy in recent years, the engineering services of the electric powerequipment still continued with the traditional mode which can’t adapt to thedevelopment trend of electric power industry. With the upgrade and progress of thesocial industrial chain, the users’ demanding for the engineering services of theelectric power equipment has been increasing continuously. And the conservativemanagement mode has been unable to adapt to the needs. Lean thinking is theadvanced management mode which originated in the manufacturing industry, and ithas been a roaring success. How to apply lean thinking into engineering services isworth discussing thoroughly.The paper firstly introduces the basic theory of lean production and lean serviceprimarily, briefly describes the present situation of electric power industry of ourcountry, and expounds some problems in the engineering services of the steam turbineunit by analyzing some examples. Secondly, by taking the link that out of the boxcounting of the empirical analysis for instance, it introduces several methodscommonly used in the field of lean thinking and industrial engineering, mainlyincluding value stream mapping,5W1H questioning method, ECRSI principle and soon. And the main existing problems in the link of the out of box counting are analyzedand improved. Then, by the principle of lean thinking, the paper carries on theanalysis to the engineering services of the steam turbine unit comprehensively. And itputs forward eight improvement measures such as the preliminary approval, processoptimization, professional training and so on. After practice, the waste in the firstthree links of the installation services were decreased to the original14%,25%and36%separately. Therefore, the installation progress is rapidly increasing, the user issatisfied,and the installation quality have made great progress. This paper attempts toapply lean thinking to the engineering services of the steam turbine unit. Practice hasproved that the application of lean thinking in the power industry engineering services is feasible. And provides a new approach and ideas for the improvement of electricalengineering services.
