Liquid Metal batteries (Liquid Metal Battery) is a kind of cheap and efficientlarge-scale energy storage device that developed in recent years at MIT. It has low storedenergy prices, simple electrode structure, easy to amplification and production, smallcharge/ion transport resistance, high charge and discharge rate, high power density,electrode intangible variable, no dendrite growth, long running life and high maintenancecost, These Advantages make it’s a potential to become a large energy storage. But becauseuse of active metal as electrode and is working in high temperature operation, Therefore Itmust isolate the inside battery from the outside air, which requires the liquid metal batterysealing material has good air tightness, insulation, thermal stability and chemical stability,etc. So sealing become one of the difficulties technical in the development of liquid metalbatteries. This paper ues liquid metal battery technology as the background, research anddevelop liquid metal batteries sealing material that can meet the sealing requirements.This article is to design and optimize of bismuth acid salt sealing glass formula, discussthe influence of composition to the thermal stability as well as the characteristics oftemperature, Selected the glass formula meet the requirements that is the glass transitiontemperature (Tg)﹤operating temperature of the liquid metal batteries﹤liquidtemperature (Tm), further we also selected the glass that meet the requirement which thecoefficient of thermal expansion (TEC) of seal material can be allow between14.933×10-6K-1to17.067×10-6K-1. Combined with the two conditions, it is concluded thatonly the formula which include bismuth oxide77%, copper oxide2%, zinc oxide2%,alumina2%, boric oxide16.1%and silicon oxide0.9%(GA-5) that satisfy the above tworequirements. It thermal expansion coefficient is15.22×10-6K-1, Tgis404℃, Tmis512℃.And then explore the crystallization of GA-5with prolonged of the heat treatment time,discuss the thermal stability of the GA-5and the chemical stability with304stainlesssteel.Finally, observe the bonding interface of GA–5with304stainless steel, to study thedensity and chemical stability of GA-5materials.In this paper I use solid and gas-solid synthesis compose CaAl2S4materials separately, Through dope calcium oxide, magnesium oxide, boron oxide, boron nitride and aluminumnitride to adjusted the TEC of CaAl2S4material, study the effect of various oxides to theTEC of CaAl2S4material. Finally, explore the density of the composite material which isafter heat treatment, selected the dopant and the ratio which meet the requirements.
