Qingdao Ba-da-guan scenic area the coast line of the city, the area was built byGermans during early1900originally as residential area. Along these roads are mansionsbuilt in a variety of European architectural styles. Large rocky outcropping, marble stoneand red tile roof inspired locals to create a nickname for these unique architectures as’hua-shi-lou’ which translates to colorful rock buildings. Nowadays, Ba-Da-guan isinseparable from locals and is one of the most iconic site of the city Qingdao, Ba-da-guannot only preserved the rich history from the remains of the European style architectures,but more importantly, it recorded the footpath of multicultural influence of where eastmeets west. Local government also imposes very high protection and constructiondevelopment standard to make sure that this remarkable piece of history will be wellpreserved for more of the world to see.The form of Ba-da-guan zone in Qingdao is recognized as one of the representativeon the revolutionary changes in design theory of the western countries. It is highly valuedin many educational research programs. The survival and protection for Ba-da-guanheritage is well recognized by the city government. There were many heritage renewalprograms proceeded from last few decade. However, the overall heritage urban planningand detailed heritage information is still almost blank due to lack of the experience andhuman resource.The prior renewal programs have left us with too many demolitions and alterationsfor the old buildings were aimed for the after result. This ignorance change totally missedout the point on protects the historical source and seriously damaged overall heritagestreetscape. This thesis is exploring the heritage elements and transformation, analysis theurban design and heritage Protection Remediation, and study the overall Ba-da-guan zoneby its regional ecological environment, service facilities, Square Landscape, yard planning,natural landscape, architectural features and so on. The goal is to summarize a properstrategy for urban renewal, eco environment and sustainable development in theBa-da-guan area. Firstly, this thesis explains the purpose and goal for this study, states theheritage value, artistically value and its meaning to Qingdao, analysis the social,economical, and cultural impact of Ba-da-guan Secondly, the thesis has also analysis the Qingdao urban development and historical background to understand the different aspectof formation of Ba-da-guan, such as historical culture, natural environment, andgeographical location and so on, provide solution to make protective measurements basedon local conditions in different environmental conditions to remediate heritage renewalprograms.This article focuses on heritage remediation protections for Ba-da-guan zone. Thebuildings within the zone are a combination of Chinese and foreign elements with differentbackground and history, language and culture. There are elements of traditional Chineseculture mix with Western culture. This thesis explore the original style of townscape,revive the historical buildings within Ba-da-guan zone, and give supporting points onincrease the public facilities, distribute and utilize urban spaces, expand green ratio in thisarea. The below studies in this report all carried out on a factual basis, where data are beencollected using factual figure that’s can be found in the past legislation or relevantstatements.It provides a brief recap over the history of Qingdao’s city planning anddevelopment for the past hundred years and bring out an outlook plan for its future whichis to build Qingdao into a city where it can continuously to be a nice place for its citizenand travelers without losing its own property as a special coast city with rich culture andexotic environment...
