With the development of the information age and evolution of design concepts, user research and design concepts will also be widely used in industrial products andInternet product design. User research is the most important goal of the system ’suser research and analysis. Successful user research have insight into the needs ofusers, and can be applied to product design to bring new design opportunities forbusinesses. It is a first key step for user research to choose which kind of users, and many user study failed due to improper user selected,so a reasonable choice foruser research is vital. Because people are complex, and user behavior is morecomplex, users and users are not the same, or everyone is different. A successfulInternet products often do not meet the needs of all users, but accurately locate acertain class of users and satisfy the needs of users of that class. What kind of useris positioned in the end we need to consider, so we need user segmentation. This paper mentioned selection and segmentation methods in the field of userresearch, and the users in this paper are divided into two categories from the twodimensions of relationship between user and business and user and the product.Thenthe paper carries on the case analysis of two kinds of user classification andsampling methods respectively, and finally sums up sampling methods about twoclassifications, which is described of the similarities and differences. What’smore, the paper mentioned selection method of user research and its applicationaccords to the characteristics of different user groups,to choose the best way tostudy for the target groups, to the greatest extent to ensure the accuracy of thesurvey sample, allowing users to maximize the role of research effect.
