Power Factor Regulator is an electrical measurement instrument which is used to measure, calculate and display power network parameters, such as phase voltage, current, frequency, aberration factor, power factor etc. And base on the parameters, regulate the power factor by cutting a set of capacitor. With the rapid development of the automation in electric power system, precise measurement and unified management of the electrical parameters are essential to guarantee supply network working economically without accident. Since more and more nonlinear equipments have been used in the power supply network, the generated high harmonics current leads to waveform distortion of voltage and current in the supply network. At the same time, power supply network frequency is varying around50Hz, making traditional direct current (DC) sampling algorithm far from satisfaction. At present, the AC sampling algorithm can’t get precious sampling when the cycle is varied dynamist.This paper presents a research on designing of the Power Factor Regulator. It’s sampling256nods in a cycle to improve the precision, a new method to calculate power factor and do some research on the cutting of capacitor. This algorithm is implemented using a high speed embedded microprocessor as the central processing unit and is making satisfying results. Veracity and real time response has been advanced. We develop a micro task scheduler to manage the system. The Power Factor Regulator based on this approach has a promising future ahead of it.
