In recent years, with the accelerated pace of urbanization in China, more andmore people influx into the city,which is accompanied by scarce urban land resources.Vigorously developing tall buildings is an effective way to ease the tense situation ofland. Tall shear wall structure is a main structural style of tall buildings, the applicationof which is very extensive. The shear wall structure contains characteristics of hugehorizontal lateral stiffness, which can help to prevent the structure produces too muchhorizontal displacement under horizontal load, even if the structure is built very high.However, damage of shear wall structure had been found without exception in somegreat earthquakes which took place in the last few years, such as Chile earthquake,Wenchuan earthquake. Compared to other structural styles, shear wall structureemerged much later, therefore, earthquake damage phenomena of the shear wallstructure doesn’t occur that often. Nonetheless, as the quantity of the shear wallstructure increases, more earthquake damage is likely to occur in the future, we’dbetter do some research on seismic of shear wall structure.Seismic behavior of shear wall structure can be improved by increasing thicknessof shear wall, strength of concrete and by enhancing reinforcement to fortify theintegral rigidity of the structure, so as to resist greater earthquakes. However, this isnot an economical practice. Another way is to install dampers in the structure, whichcan realize the consumption of energy that the earthquake inputs when the strength isthe same as that of the original structural design, helping the structure to resist greaterearthquakes.At present, some research and design about shear wall structure damping havealready been made. But systematic research about damping effect of layout parametersof dampers is next to nothing. In this paper, dampers are installed in spandrel span ineach floor of one plate tall shear wall structure. Two parameters,“yield strengthcoefficient” and “yield displacement coefficient” are proposed, which refer toyield shear force ration between damper and spandrel span and yield displacementration between dampers and spandrel span respectively. Researches on effect ofdamping result by these two parameters of dampers are developed, which aims to seekfor two optimized parameters whose damping results are best. In order to avoidadverse effect of irregularity of structures to the research of damping effect, in section3of this paper, a shear wall structure of15floors, the wall of which has been arranged regularly is designed, which is the structural object of study of this paper.First of all, in section2, according to classification of dampers and analysis ofdeformation characteristics of shear wall structure,4types of metallic dampers havebeen chosen to make finite element analysis, X shape stiffening steel plate damper hasbeen chosen out as the damper analyzed in this paper, according to area surrounded byhysteretic curve of the damper. In section3,3wall-spandrel computing units ofstandard structural spandrel have been extracted in accordance with the designed shearwall structure. By using pseudo-static napping method based on Abaqus, values ofyield shear force and yield displacement of spandrel span in each standard structuralfloor can be worked out.Then, in section4, by presupposing7×7groups values of “yield force coefficient” and “yield displacement coefficient”, and according to the values of yield shearforce and yield displacement of spandrel span in section3and Constitutive Model of Xshape stiffening steel plate damper by Prof. Guo Xun’s experiment,49groups of yieldshear force and displacement of dampers and their constitutive relation can becalculated. Based on these, the writer built49damping models with the49constitutiverelation of X shape stiffening steel plate dampers. Afterwards, time-procedure analysisof shear wall structure prototypes and damping models will be conducted by inputtingEl Centro Wave, Taft Wave, and one artificial wave with peak acceleration of0.2g,0.6g,1g, from which data of displacement of adjacent floors and vertex displacementcan be extracted. In this paper, the writer proposed damping capability index and itscalculated evaluation as the evaluation measure of the damping effect of dampers. Byusing Table Curve3D software, damping capability index calculation results of threeevaluation criteria were fitted, and then peaks of combined surface damping capabilityindex can be counted, from which we can get the final values of “yield forcecoefficient” and “yield displacement coefficient” by calculating theirintermediate values.In the end of this paper, a comprehensive thesis collation and summary have beenmade.
