Reinforced soil retaining wall is widely applied in practical engineering for its goodapplicability and economic benefit. In this paper, for the background of widely expanding ofhighway widening project in domestic, L-shaped panel vertical reinforced soil retaining wallused in subgrade widening works were studied. The universal finite element softwareABAQUS be used to simulate the construction process of new reinforced subgrade, and theeffects of the key parameters to new subgrade reinforcement were studied. And the impact ofvarious parameters to the strength and displacement characteristics of reinforced newsubgrade are analyzed. The main work as follows:1. Summarizes the research results and current situation at domestic and foreign ofreinforced soil structure, and the vertical reinforced soil retaining wall applied subgradewidening project are proposed.2. Based on the characteristic of double side of highway subgrade widening, athree-dimensional finite element model of new and old subgrade and the foundationinteraction effect are established. And the numerical calculation results are compared with thetest results to verify the correctness of the results, the results prove that the modeling accuracyand effectiveness of the model.3. For the deformation and stress distribution characteristics of new and old subgrade andfoundation during the new subgrade construction, related research work was carried out usingthe model of this paper. The deformation characteristics of new and old subgrade, deformationcharacteristics and the effect of geogrid reinforced are analyzed, and the feasibility andeffectiveness of vertical reinforced soil retaining wall applied used in subgrade wideningengineering. The results proved that the vertical reinforced soil retaining wall applied tosubgrade widening with small deformation, meet the requirements of engineering designrelevant regulatory.4. Related sensitivity parameters which influence the strength and displacementcharacteristics of the reinforced new subgrade were analyzed. Through the analysis, the resultshows that the layer number has obvious influence to the lateral displacement and settlementof the reinforced new subgrade; Panel stiffness and integrity has obvious effect to the lateraldisplacement of the reinforced new subgrade, but less influence on the settlement; Thetreatment of new and old subgrade combining parts has less influence to the lateraldisplacement of the new subgrade, but have more apparent effects on the subgrade’ssettlement; Using lightweight filler filling subgrade can significantly reduce the lateral displacement and settlement.
