As a born-again way of modern urban rail transportation, tram gets rapid development in recent years and will play a vital role in establishing a sustainable development of the modern transportation system. The signal system holds a more important position as the key equipment in urban rail transit system. When comparing with the traditional transports such as subway and light rail, tram signal system and its control strategy has its own characteristics, both adhering to the traditional role, and has been given a special application requirements and technical conditions. In this disserta-tion, We did a detailed and in-depth research about important component of tram signal system, by focusing on tram signal system combined with actual engineering design and application in order to complete the analysis and research of tram control strategy.Firstly, considering the features of tram, application mode and regional adaptability, We make a detailed and rational analysis of tram adaptability, including five application model and applicable conditions. Secondly, the next part is the introduction of characteristics of tram signal systems, as well as function and components of each subsystem. A detailed and in-depth discussion of the main line switch control system and the level crossing control system which is the most important subsystem of tram signal system was given, including requirements analysis, control measures, control mode and system solutions. Through comparison-study on several schemes, we designed system scheme of the main line decentralized switch control system based on cross induction loop and the level crossing control system based on DSRC detection. Finally, some analysis and research about Shenyang tram’s snow removal system and Zhuhai tram’s collector shoe control scheme, and the feasibility of Beijing Xijiao groove rail axle outer installation were accomplished since other typical control problems in the tram engineering project had been taken into account.This dissertation accomplished preliminary research of tram signal system and its control strategy, therefore, provide some guidance on tram project design and system analysis.
