With the advancement of technology, modern tram evolved from the traditional trambecomes popular in modern urban transport system. As a new mode of transport, modern tramhas advantages of large capacity, environment–friendly and high intelligence, which mainlyreflected in train control system, color light signaling system and passenger informationsystem etc. we should lend train location information of real-time, reliable, and high-precisionto enable effective function of each system above.Navigation and positioning technology has been developed rapidly in resent years, aswell as integrated navigation and positioning technology was wildly applied in the fields ofaviation, aerospace and navigation. Moreover, this technology become applied in thepositioning and navigation of land vehicles. A large number of experiments and applicationsshow that integrated navigation and positioning technology basing on multi-sensor can fullymeet the demands of ground transportation carrier positioning. This paper establishes alow-cost integrated positioning system of GPS/IMU/ODO to achieve the real-time location ofmodern tram on the base of analyzing the characteristics of it, which depends on themulti-source sensors above to collect data. Afterwards, it designs the actual hardwareplatform of system applicable to modern tram on the base of controlling overall cost and thenintroduces the process of software design and key issues according to the characteristics ofdesign. It analyzes the information fusion technology supplied in integrated navigation andpositioning according to the characteristics of system data output as well as uses FederalKalman filtering principle to process data and integrate information according to the featuresof algorithm and requirements of system. Afterwards, the paper establishes a mathematicalmodel for simulation on the base of Federal Kalman Filter algorithm to analyze theadvantages of multi-sensor integrated positioning. The feasibility and effectiveness of thismodel is certificated by the platform of train integrated positioning system. However, as aresult of the complexity of the system, any part of the platform causes certain error comingfrom each sensor, some of which will obviously affect the accuracy of the final output data. Therefore, the paper should analyze each error as well as propose measures to eliminate them.In this way, the paper reduces errors by designing a reference system basing on transponder toamend the absolute position of train in order to reduce the cumulative error of sensor as wellas optimizing the position output point by the shortest distance method to unify the finaloutput data on one track according to the characteristics of rail transport. All optimizationmeasures can further raise the accuracy of output data. The integrated positioning system offers the relative position information of moderntram, the function of which is to provide precision real-time positioning of tram. This system can completely stand alone with existing occlusion way or sum up with them, ultimatelyachieving the precise positioning of modern tram by smaller cost.
