High-voltage transmission line is one of the most important components of thepower system,it is the economic lifeline of the power system, and bears the task ofdelivering the energy to each places. With the increasing of the number of high-voltagelong-distance transmission lines, The probability of occurrence of a ground fault areincreasing highly in circuit, its threat to the safe operation of power system is alsogrowing. Therefore, the study of how to quickly and accurately determine the point ofground fault is becoming an important issue in the field of power system protection now.In this paper, based on the current phase of the transmission line overhead groundwire to ground fault location system is a real-time online fault location system,The faultlocation system is mainly againsted a short circuit case,which is caused by the insulatoraging breakdown of the tower, The method determines the point of failure by judgingthe current phase information of the tower overhead ground wire, if the current phase ofthe monitoring points is contrary, it indicates that the failure being at this point.The operation of the system requires power source, Therefore, in the positioningsystem, a online taking energy module is designed to charge the lithium battery withenergy. C8051F310microcontroller is the core controller in data communication module,connect and communicate with the central station monitoring system via the GPRSnetwork by controlling the wireless communication module M590E.The central stationstaff determines the position of the ground fault tower by looking at the fault reportinginformation,thus quickly notifys the maintenance personnel to repair the fault, achieverapid and accurate fault location.
