Electronic Power Steering (EPS) is a new type of vehicle steering system, it uses the motor to provide auxiliary torque for the driver. Compared with the traditional hydraulic power steering system, it doesn’t have complex lines and starts to work only when the car steers. It is popular and meet the requirements of modern cars. EPS relates to the security, stability and comfort in driving. With the increase of loading quantity, the performance of the device gets more attention. Making detectiving and evaluation of the basic properties of the EPS is important to guarantee products’quality. This test-bed can test the basic properties of the EPS and that provides the basis for the real vehicle testing and loading.Analysing the working principle and performance requirements of the EPS, comparing the characteristics of each plan, combined with practical applications to determine the function. Determining the test technology parameters, designing a concrete structure of the servo motor and magnetic powder brake test platform.Using the servo drive sytem to realize the simulation of the driver’s steering. Through a serial port module, it uses VB to write data to the PLC, controls the servo motor to simulate the driver steering wheel.Using the magnetic powder loading system to realize the simulation of the road resistance. According to the mathematical model of the road resistance, it uses single chip microcomputer to output the corresponding analog signal to the controller, controlling the magnetic powder brake to simulate the road turning load.Using VB to obtain acquisition card driver function in the data acquisition of the test bench, to collect the sensor output signal.Determining the working process of the test bench and testing a electric power steering actually in this experimental platform to verify the actual effect.This small test bench suitable for laboratory studies that has the characteristics of simple structure, convenient clamping, low manufacturing cost. It can complete testing the torque characteristic, current characteristic, no-load characteristic of the C-EPS. It can judge the testing result based on the evaluation standard of this test bench. It avoids the hidden trouble that caused by doing the real vehicle experiment blindly and provides the basis for further research in the electric power steering system.
