As one of national compulsory verified of metrology equipment, magnetic field probe is a significant component of the electromagnetic field detector, also be commonly used in the electromagnetic compatibility test and environmental electromagnetic detection. However, only part of magnetic field sensors can be calibrated by a few domestic metrology institutions. In order to enlarge the capability for magnetic field probe calibration, and make sure more magnetic field probes being used are under control, the National Institute of Metrology P.R. China EMC Lab intended to research and establish magnetic field probe calibration system in500kHz-1MHz,which the magnetic field was generated with Helmholtz coils.In this paper, the composition of Helmholtz coils magnetic field sensor calibration system and the Instrument features were introduced, especially on the characteristics of Helmholtz coils, the principle of generating uniform magnetic field and the methods of magnetic field probe calibration. Besides, the Helmholtz coils model was set up and simulated with Ansoft Maxwell and MATLAB, the simulation results present the distribution characteristics of uniform magnetic field and the disturbance of magnetic field by the magnetic field probe. Based on LabVIEW platform, completed the instruments in control and achieved the functions such as automated testing automatically in the magnetic field sensor calibration system. Finally, carried out the measurement uncertainty evaluation, presented the uncertainty components and estimation result, and improved the calibration method and accuracy in evaluating.The establishment of calibration system has further extended the frequency range of magnetic field probe calibration and improved the level of calibration. Simultaneously, based on the reliable and credible measurement results, the development and operation of the magnetic field probe automated calibration software has also improved the testing efficiency, which can serve the society better.
