Static Var Compensator(SVC), which is one of the most widely applied Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) device, can quickly dynamically change its output, produce or absorb reactive power, to compensate system reactive power, and improve system voltage stability, transient stability with increased damping effect, is of importance to the safe and stable operation of power system to ensure power quality. Therefore, study on the integrated control system, which is the most important core part of SVC, is of theoretical and practical significance.Firstly, this paper gives a few application examples of SVC in power system, and presents an improved signal detection method based on instantaneous reactive power theory, which was verified using RTDS simulation.Secondly, the integrated control system of SVC which include voltage control with dynamic transfer slip and auxiliary damping control was constructed, and simulation models corresponding to the integrated control system module was established under the environment of RTDS, the effects of the integrated control system of SVC are illustrated by simulation on a simple compensation system and one machine infinite bus system with double lines. The simulation results manifests the design of SVC integrated control system can quickly compensate for the load, improve voltage stability, and in a different fault conditions can guarantee the system transient stability, improve the safety and stable operation of the system. Finally, the interactions between SVC voltage control and the auxiliary damping control are investigated. The results show that a mutual restriction between voltage control and the auxiliary damping control exists, which means that improving the damping effect can reduce system voltage stability control effect. In order to solve this problem, this paper presented a coordinated design philosophy, which utilizes the RTDS batch simulation and test facility to obtain a set of parameters that achieves best performance of SVC control, and the simulation testing results show that the method is effective and practical.
