In this century, virtual reality technology is the most important research direction in thefield of compute. It is viewed as one of the three key technologies in the21st century, parallelingwith Internet and multi-media. VR is one of the important technical supports of digitalshipbuilding, and it is the development direction of future advanced shipbuilding technology. Atpresent, many countries in the world all vigorously carry out virtual reality technology in theresearch and application of the shipbuilding industry and our country also has carried on thepositive research in this field, which has gained some research achievement.Hull assembly is an important part of the ship building, and the stand or fall of assemblyprocess directly affects the ship building quality and efficiency. On the basis of shipbuildingtechnology, and through the analysis and research of hull assembly method, this paper realizedthe whole process of hull assembly simulation and stored in the corresponding processinformation of the hull with the computer before the ship construction. This system allows usersunlimited studying and watching, and makes them understand the whole structure of the ship andinformation of each component comprehensively. It can make the designers discover theassembly problems in time and avoid the danger and defects in the real assembly process. It willreduce the waste of resources, shorten the shipbuilding period, and improve the efficiency ofshipbuilding.In this paper, we will complete the task as follows:1)Analyze and summarize the shipbuilding industry status quo, the digital shipbuilding andresearch situation of virtual reality technology in home and abroad. Expound the researchpurpose and significance of this issue and put forward the main function, the overall design andimplementation method of the virtual simulation system of hull assembly.2) Choose a12000DWT heavy lift vessel as the simulation object and establishthree-dimensional entity model of the hull combining with the3D modeling software of3DSMax and Tribon. Use rendering, baking and model optimization technology to deal with3Dmodel. According to the analysis of the hull assembly method, complete animations of hullassembly process.3)Import the completed model and assembly animation of the hull from3DS Max to VRPsimulation platform, then edit model script function which is used to control the hull assemblyprocess in VRP simulation platform. Combine Visual Studio C++and VRP virtual scene byVRP-SDK, then invoke script function of VRP script editor by programming to achieve the purpose for real-time interactive control of virtual assembly.4)Select the Access to create the database, store the virtual hull assembly code and hullinformation into the database. Connect each three-dimensional model with the correspondingmodel information in the database, via the function of database connecting in VRP. Invoke tocheck the hull process information at roaming, through the mouse and keyboard.
