Safety issue is the most important problem in nuclear power plant. Once a majoraccident happens, it’ll have a significant impact on people, society and environment.Most nuclear power plant accidents are caused by human error, the main controlroom as the biggest concentration of human-machine interfaces in nuclear powerplant is the most probable place of the occurrence of human error. As one of the mostimportant systems in the main control room, the alarm system provides theinformation needed for monitoring plant deviating from the normal workingconditions, and is very important to ensure the safe and reliable operation of nuclearpower plant. Improper alarm system may cause interference with alarm, continuousalarm and too much alarm, and may even lead to events or accidents. Reasonabledesign of alarm system is an important safeguard against nuclear accidents. And anobjective, true and effective evaluation method is needed to ensure the design ofalarm system in main control room meets the requirements.With the development of modern science, digital technology has beenintroduced into main control room, and the digital alarm system has a more powerfulprocessing capability. However, it brings some unfavorable factors, such as too muchinformation and difficult to access. It also brings some new human error. In order tomake the design of digital alarm system more reasonable, a scientific and effectiveevaluation should be conducted. This paper focuses on the evaluation of digital alarmsystem and conducts the following researches:(1) The function and technical requirements of advanced digital alarm systemwere analyzed. The key characteristics of digital alarm system were studied andcompared with the traditional alarm system.(2) Based on the evaluation criterion, related articles and experience of digital alarm system, the original evaluation indicators system were built. The paperconstructed a simple digital alarm system evaluation indicators system through theindex screening approaches of Cluster and Grey relational analysis. And theevaluation indicators system was demonstrated to be effective by the validity test.(3) Comparative analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of severalcommon evaluation methods for uncertain systems were conducted. Based on graytheory and fuzzy mathematics, this paper proposed a comprehensive evaluationmethod for digital alarm system. And then used analysis software SPSS17.0to testraw data’ reliability and validity. The results showed that this data has the reliabilityand consistency, with considerable confidence.(4) The case of a certain nuclear plant digital alarm system was used to verifythe evaluation theory and method. The results showed that the method this paperproposed was effective and practical.
