The Contemporary Transformation Of The Traditional Architecture Symbols

Art, as a symbol, is the product of the human emotion. During its development, the Chinesetraditional architectural culture has always been under the influence of the factors such as politics,geography and economy. It has formed the artistic features which are different from those of other countries.Chinese traditional architectural culture can represent the broad and profound Chinese cultural andhistorical traits. On the overall level of the city, in the spatial relationship between the city and thelandscape, or in the outline of a city, architecture can be used as symbols of expression. All the elements,frameworks and artistic conceptions of Chinese traditional architecture can not only be taken asarchitectural symbols to reveal the information, but also be regarded as a special visual language in thefield of contemporary architecture and environment design.However, a large amount of simplified copies of Chinese traditional architectural symbols in thedesign of contemporary urban buildings and environment, which we call counterfeit ancient buildings, lackcontemporary aesthetic expression. The fundamental element of inheriting Chinese traditional architecturalart is to base the modern architectural form on the traditional architectural language, endow it with theaesthetic spirit of the present age. This thesis aims at studying how to summerize and infuse the traditionalarchitectural symbols into the contemporary architectural design in modern urban development planning.The thesis starts with the background of the globalization of economy and culture, analyzes theproblems existing in Chinese urban architecture development. Based on the study of the existing theories athome and abroad, and large amount of practices, the thesis tries to summarize the relationship of thetraditional architectural culture with the contemporary aesthetic culture, the modern science andtechnology, and the constructing materials. Based on the contemporary architecture language, the thesisaims to find the joint point between tradition and contemporary age and strives to explore new architecturedesigns and design forms.The contemporary architecture should be based the research of the essence of traditionalarchitectural culture. It is imperative that we should not copy the western architecture styles nor beentrapped in our traditional architecture concepts. The tradition and the modernity should meet, crash and unite at last. The contemporary architecture should possess modern cultural features as well as the aesthetictraits in traditional architecture culture. By this way, we can design the contemporary architecture withlocal cultural aesthetics and be of some value to the contemporary architectural form designs.
