:Compared with the common truss, the vierendeel truss doesn’t include the tilted belly poles, so the structure is more concise and the modeling is more beautiful. Therefore in good graces of more architects,and is applied widely among public architectures with medium and small span.The mechanical properties of vierendeel truss is significantly different with the common ones, so the design method deserves to be different. But the research work and related literature on vierendeel truss is rare, and no clear design standard is proposed. This paper systematically study on the static performance of vierendeel truss through numerical method, and discuss the design method of plane truss, concrete work are as follows:Firstly, analyzing the structure characteristics of vierendeel truss, and summarize the research situation and results of common truss and related structure, which provide basis for study and design method. Secondly, systematically summarizing the nonlinear stability theory of vierendeel truss, and establish the finite element model,then provide the derivation of element equation. Study on the static performance of fish-bellied truss through nonlinear finite element method. Clearly obtaining the failure mechanism and instability mode through the analysis of structure deformation and internal force law under full-span and half-span load.Thus come to the conclusion of the affects that parameter, such as rise-span ratio、height span ratio、 number of web member and member section, brings to the truss. Furthermore, concluding the affective law, and propose some design suggestions beneficial to improve the design method on the early basis.Thirdly, this paper did a research on the static performance of radialized special vierendeel truss through the nonlinear finite element method. Clearly obtaining the failure mechanism and instability mode through the analysis of structure deformation and internal force law under full-span and half-span load.Therefore concluding the affects that rise-span ratio、height span ratio、number of web member and number of truss bring to the structure through changing parameter analysis. Meanwhile proposing some design suggestions beneficial to improve the design method on the earlier basis.Last but not least, discussing the design method of parallel-chords truss and fish-bellied plane truss based on the liner analysis through the earlier nonlinear analyzing results. Moreover, put forward that the calculation of parallel-chords truss and fish-bellied plane truss can directly use a liner analysis method. Based on the liner buckling analysis and research on the related bearing capacity parameter of top chord, at the same time using the orthogonal test, this paper finally establishes single-parameter and multi-parameter, thus providing a law to checking calculation of the top chord and prove the feasibility of the design method through a practical project.
