It has very important practical significance to research urban power grid operation safety and reliability under all kinds of extreme natural conditions. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the against disaster ability of urban power grid effectively and to discover the hidden dangers in system. Using the scientific research method to give the evaluative results and suggestions for improvement. This paper is based on the actual disaster relief demand of city grid and the huge amounts of data about severe natural disasters in China, to analyze the affected reasons of urban power grid and establish the evaluation index system for urban power grid vulnerability which is based on the study of fault tree analysis and the conclusions. And then, in the process of urban power grid disaster assessment, this paper has made a comprehensive analysis to calculate each index which is based on analytic hierarchy process method of index scale. Using the AHP evaluation algorithm which is based on index scale, to standardize the classified index system. It gives the method to define the index weight of capacity to resist natural disaster and combines with the specific instances to make the effective evaluation. AS application examples, this paper is selected two cities to compare. Through the actual evaluation and the score of anti disaster capability, the improved suggestion is put forward from many ways such as data acquisition, score of index, weight calculation, display results and suggestions. This paper tries to establish a scientific, accurate and flexible urban grid disaster evaluation system. Then using this evaluation system to find out the vulnerabilities of urban power grid and reduce the risk of accidents which are occurred by disasters.
