Study On Urban Design Of Small City In The Background Of New Urbanization

Strategy of the new urbanization in China is a superstructure design and a master plan formacro-policy, which is guided by the principles of humanity, ecology and economy. The strategy has been applied into various fields in society at all levels. While, it has a lack of integrated research with urban design. As the main part of the strategy, small town and its urban designhave not been systematically researched at home. This research is a deepen study on theoriesof “macro and micro perspectives”,“theory and practice “and “thoughts and methods”. Moreover, it is an initial exploration on practice.The dissertation is organized into six chapters, and here is an overview of it.The Chapter1serves as the introduction, which presents the background, selection basis,aims and the meanings of this thesis. In addition, this chapter introduces four main researchmethods.In Chapter2, a literature review on studies of new urbanization home and abroad is given, which paves the way for establishing a target system of small town’s urban design in following chapters.In Capter3, the classical theories of urban design of small town is firstly introduced. On this basis, the design level, design object and primary coverage of urban design of small townare put forward. And then this paper analyzes the core spatial elements of small town’s urbandesign and some basic issues on cultural design and plan for small towns.Chapter4is the part which details methods. After a general introduction of several spatial analysis approaches of urban design, and a reference to the theory connotation of new urbanization, the thesis presents the basic methods, ideas and process of urban design in small town.Chapter5is the main part of this thesis. Taking urban design in JiangNan Town of DunHua City as an example, the thesis elaborates the application of urban design in small towns under the background of new urbanization. Combining theory with practice, thesis gives a spatial analysis of JiangNan Town LiuDing Mountain areas, and then carries on a design. By zooming in the planning area, a further discussion and research are focused on landscape of the town and surrounding areas.Chapter6mainly gives a summary of several core issues about urban design in small towns and then provides an outlook for new urbanization strategy.
