The handling stability of the vehicle is one important performance of cars, Its quality affects not only the convenience of driving, but also is related to the safety of the vehicle and personnel.With the continued development of economy and technology, various properties of cars cause more and more people’s attention, handling and stability also attracted much concern. With the development of virtual prototype technology mechanical products have been greatly improved both in the design cycle and the cost of production. The virtual simulation whice theoretical basis is multi-body system dynamics is one of the effective methods for automotive research. This paper will be based on this to a light truck to do simulation and optimization analysis of handling stability.This paper use a light truck’s front suspension system as the research object, and apply ADAMS software and genetic algorithm to do the simulation and optimization analysis of a light truck. The first two chapters detailed describe the development and research results of the vehicle handling and stability at home and abroad, also have multi-body system dynamics theory and basic knowledge of software ADAMS. Then use ADAMS/Car Module build a light truck’s front suspension system and carry on simulation analysis for it, but found there have problems in aspect of the light truck steering stability through analysis the data we get. Finally use ADAMS/Insight and genetic algorithms to do the optimization processing for them, the optimized system has good handling and stability performance.By using ADAMS/Postprocessor to analyze and simulate the changes of wheel alignment parameters,find camber, toe angle of the front wheels, design parameters of the caster angle unreasonable, In order to get a more reasonable design parameters for design requirements, using the experimental optimization design based on ADAMS/Insight, and finally get a more reasonable design system. Since the optimization based on ADAMS/Insight adjusted the hard point coordinates manually in the output page after the analysis in ADAMS/Insight module,the results of optimization maybe have a relatively large contingency problems.To further improve the suspension system, and further using genetic algorithm based on MATLAB to optimize the design.Using genetic algorithm based on Matlab to optimize the analysis of the front suspension of a light truck, apply the genetic algorithm to optimize the results of the front suspension system,by compared with the results which based on ADAMS/Insight the test optimization design shows that based on Genetic Algorithm optimization results more in line with the design requirements, the more reasonable front wheel alignment parameters can be obtained.Based on the test optimization design in ADAMS/Insight and the genetic algorithm optimization in MATLAB, two methods are feasible,and also have its own advantages.
