The Research On Design Characteristics Of The Nanyue Temple ShengdiTemple Interior Space

The Nanyue temple is the largest surviving ancient architectural building complex combined with folk shrines, Buddhist temples and Taoist temples in southern China, which is the example of Buddhism and Taoism coexisting, the epitome of the royal buildings and a holy blessing place. Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoismin Nanyue temple have different beliefs,but they can develop friendly and harmoniously in thousand years, so it is meaningful that studying the methods of three religions coexisting to used for indoor space design practice. The Shengdi Temple in Nanyue temple is a communion of Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism, their cultures coexist in the place, which is an example of religious culture communion. This paper start with The Shengdi Temple and launch a study about indoor space design features.Firstly, the paper,combined different examples of Mount Wutai, White Cloud Temple and Confucian Temple, analyzes indoor space elements of Buddhism and Taoism and Confucianism from several aspects, such as the interior space design concept, planning, material, color, details, lighting, furnishings and accessories, the summarizes their own essential elements of space composing and the philosophy of using, which could be a basic of analyzing and summarizing characteristics of indoor space about the Shengdi Temple.The main part of this paper is a research about the color characteristics of indoor space, indoor display space, and indoor space structure, regarded the Shengdi temple as the research object, and its elements of interior space design features as research content, used many methods like field survey interview method, comparative analysis and summary method. And the indoor space design features of Shengdi Temple as follows:(1)red and yellow is the homophony created a gorgeous decorative color;(2) Rich and colorful furnishings decoration, rigid specification of layout;(3) materials chosen according to local conditions and majestic wooden construction. The paper also summarizes some features contained characteristics of three religions communion and the corresponding cultural connotation, which form a kind of interior space about the three religions coexisting in Shengdi Temple harmoniously, used Confucianism as a guide and usied Buddha, Dao their own religious elements eclectically, added Confucianism indoor space elements properly.At last, the author made own study results as the theoretical guidance, summarizes the indoor design features of the Shengdi temple in Nanyue temple and applies the ideas of three religions communion into conceptual design practices. the design practice is not only a profound experience of theory research, but also prove feasibility of those study results is validated.
