Steering by wire (SBW) system for vehicle cancels the linkage between steering wheel and steering gear, and opens up a new field in steering characteristic design. SBW system can increase the freedom for the angular transfer characteristic design and force transfer characteristic design. Furthermore, it can improve vehicle stability, drive comfort and active safety. SBW system is an inevitable trend in the development of vehicle steering system. This paper is based on the projection named "Research on the theory and method of energy efficiency design for the vehicle steering by system. This paper aimed at study the control strategy of the active steering and road feeling for vehicle, the main research work is summarized as follows:Firstly, the author summarizes the development state of SBW, system structure and working principle. And point out the key technology of vehicle SBW system for practical. Then, the variable gear ratio MAP is designed base on the unchanged yaw angular velocity gain of the steady-state steering. The vehicle’s ideal states are defined based on the linear2DOFs vehicle model. And the active steering control strategy is designed by the integrate feedback of the yaw rate and lateral acceleration. The simulation algorithm of the driver’s road feeling is designed using the function fitting, and it’s combined with the active steering control strategy.Last, the vehicle dynamic model is built in CarSim and the control strategy is built in Simulink. The control algorithm was verified via the typical test computer simulation. The results show that, the control strategy of active steering and road feeling can effectively lighten the driver’s load, improve the vehicle stability and active safety, the real-time simulation is studied based on the real-time simulation system dSPACE. These studies can provide the basic theory and practice for the subsequent hardware-in-loop simulation (HILS).
