Traffic signs have great impact on traffic control and network information transmissionas safety facilities, and it plays an important role in modern traffic management. With thecharacteristics of totally closure and high designing speed, highway greatly relies on trafficsigns to guide the drivers and ensure safety. Nowadays, the main consideration in traffic signsetting is the interaction between driver behavior and sign’s parameters, ignoring the impactof traffic flow. While in the actual situation, most passenger car drivers drive on the fast laneof the highway, and their sight to the traffic signs set on the right side of the highway areusually obscured by heavy vehicles driving on the slow lane, which causes the "failure" oftraffic signs setting. Therefore, the impact of traffic flow, especially the effect of heavyvehicles on the slow lane, should be taken into account when conducting highway traffic signreconstruction. The key study content is to simulate and analyze the situation that the roadside trafficsigns obscured by heavy vehicles. Data collection, the model system establishment and themodel application are the three main research processes. The data collection stage mainlysummaries the model research views, methods and the theoretical basis already existed indomestic and abroad, then analyze whether the model scenes are appropriate andcomprehensive, finally is to consider the practical value of results from the model. During themodel establishment stage, the first is to logically design the model scene, then to confirm therelevant index parameters and influence factors, and then to establish the algorithm toestimate whether the shelter occurs; finally is to study the probability of each scenariooccurred. During the model application stage, it will select an actual road and apply the modelsystem to analyze it, and then feedback the problems emerging from the application process.Base on the work above, the roadside traffic sign occlusion model, which chose theocclusion time as determining indicator, was built. Combined with the traffic signs’ designand setting theories which have already existed, the comprehensive setting effect evaluationsystem of traffic signs depending on the interaction of "traffic sign-driver operation behavior-traffic flow" was established. Finally, the evaluation system method was used to conduct evaluation on the traffic sign located on some section of Hu-Ning Highway, which beginsfrom Shanghai to Nanjing.
