An Analysis Of The Design Strategies For The Centralized Common Space Of The University Town In China

In order to accelerate the city-development, educational reform and industrial update,China has started its carrier of University Town since1990s. The main idea is to share theeducational resources. But with the lack of management and a long-term strategies, the ideaof sharing doesn’t run well. The current situation of the Centralized Common Space ofmany University Towns tells everything.The Centralized Common Space is a special component in a University Town. On onehand, it acts as a part of a city to serve the citizens. On the other hand, it interacts with thecampuses around it as a part of a University Town. Its utilization efficiency will have animportant influence on the value of the university town. Since what China concerns about ofdevelopment is being changed from quantities to qualities. If the idea of the centralizedcommon space can effectively come true in the material, it can do a great help to maximizethe assemble effect of creativity around schools to serve the country，and to make theeducational resources well shared by the students and teachers who live inside theuniversity town and the citizens near around.This paper is base on the theory of the sharing of educational space and the caseswhich are still running. It focuses on the components of the centralized common space andthe combination of them，hoping to come up with a common strategy for the planning ofuniversity towns in the future.This article includes6chapters.1. The first part. The definition, the contents and the value of the Centralized CommonSpace of a University Town are discussed in this part. Theories both in and out of China aresummarized in this part. And the study guide is also prepared here.2.This part tells about the basic theory of this paper. The difference between thecentralized common space and other kind of common space is talked about. The history ofthe common space of cities and the necessity of the centralized common space in auniversity town are also mention carefully.3. The third tells about the characteristics of the centralized common space based on the investigations. With the methods and steps that is well designed，the reasons of successor failure of several centralized common space are summed up. They are also tested by thelatest theories and the value of university town.4. This forth is on the common designing strategies. Base on the investigation, thetheories and the reasons mentioned, the components of the centralized common space of auniversity town and the combinations of them are discussed in this part.5. The fifth part is a part of case study. The theoretical model of the centralizedcommon space is put into one case to guide the planning, and telling what problems wouldbe met while using this strategies.6. The last part is about the conclusions and the problems for further discussion.Through this paper,2conclusions are made with2innovative points and2problems forfurther study in the future.
