The phenomenon such as aircraft climbing, descending, converging, crossing, conflict is frequent,and sector flexible management of coupling and splitting in terminal area where airline network iscomplex. The terminal airspace operation has strong coupling characteristics, traffic flow has obvioustime-varying characteristics, and the changes of traffic flow impact obviously on airspace capacity.Through the optimization study of air traffic flow, we can make clear of the influence mechanism oftraffic flow changes on terminal airspace capacity. Air traffic flow optimization can effectivelyimprove the terminal operation capacity, and it has important practical significance to solve thecurrent airspace congestion and delay.The purpose of this paper is to discuss capacity improvement method of terminal airspace byoptimizing the traffic flow. Under the premise of meet the aircraft performance and safety indicators,research terminal capacity improvement effect based on traffic flow optimization, to providemethodological guidance of improve resource utilization efficiency. The paper has introduced thebasic concept of terminal airspace capacity evaluation, researched the key algorithm of capacityevaluation and evaluation process. Traffic flow mathematical model and optimization model ispresented in this paper, and described the conflict detection and relief method of terminal airspaceoperation. The paper established three-dimensional traffic flow simulation environment of terminalarea. By the air traffic flow simulation program simulate operation capacity of the terminal area underdifferent traffic flow parameters such as flow, speed, control interval, and terminal capacityimprovement method is put forward.The simulation results show that under certain airspace environment and traffic demand, theoptimization of traffic flow can raise the utilization ratio of airspace resources, and effectivelyimprove airspace operation capacity of the terminal area.
