In recent years, along with the development in current shipping market, shipstend to be larger and more specialized. A number of our coastal ports cannotsatisfy the needs of present transportation and economic activities. In order tomeet the needs of a modernized port and its larger size vessels and to better servethe economic and social development of our country, it is necessary to expand theproduction capacity of the ports through technical renovation, and to adapt thecapacity of the existing berths to accommodate larger ships.This paper introduces the main methodology and key technologies in asuccessful EPC project. The project is the Shenzhen MaWan power plantspecialized coal unloading terminal, which was upgraded and rebuilt from a50000DWT gravity quay to presently a70000DWT quay. The strategy ofstructure design and construction technology of the project are discussed andanalyzed in this paper.This paper also introduces the origin and application of mold bag concrete inChina; and the present key technologies to protect the quay foundation during theprocess of gravity quay upgrading. The reason for using mold bag concrete, andits design, tests and construction technology are discussed. The test study andconstruction technology of mold bag concrete are the main focus of this paper.The study result could provide a practical guide for the design and construction offuture similar projects.
